Contingent
What is Contingent recruitment?
Contingent recruitment is placing your vacancy with a number of agencies. It could be likened to trawling - you throw plenty of lines out and hopefully hook the big one. Be careful not to turn it into a "drift net fishing" exercise as you can do more harm to your reputation than good by giving too little information to too many recruiters.
When to use contingency?
Contingent recruitment is a good idea when looking to quickly sweep the market for the "active candidates" or to tap into agencies databases and networks.
A few tips:
- Ensure the agencies you engage operate within the right networks for your industry and beware of engaging generalist recruiters as there may be a lack of understanding about your industry.
- If two agencies have the same candidate you need to manage this process fairly and openly - The last thing you want is agencies competing to find your candidate a job elsewhere.
- If you are engaging agencies on this basis you should set strict candidate screening guidelines for them to follow.
- As a lot of agencies come up with the same active candidates, 360 Search would recommend dealing with the agent who has screened, interviewed and background checked the candidate.
- Trust is also a major factor. When two agencies put the same candidate forward, deal with the agency that has Consultants you can trust.
- Contingency recruitment can create a race to get a CV out to clients. Although competition is a good thing - let's not encourage the fastest gunslinger in the west to shoot you the CV's.
- Good Consultants will not get pulled into a race.
